Contact lenses can sometimes seem like both a blessing and a curse— yes, they give you the vision you need to see without you having to wear glasses but things like dirt and dust can easily become trapped on them. However, wearing contact lenses shouldn’t cause you any sort of pain or frustration. By understanding how to properly care for them, you can start having a love/love relationship with your contact lenses instead of a love/hate relationship.
1. Clean Them
It used to be that you had to buy both a contact lense cleaner and a contact lense disinfectant, but now you can buy an all-in-one solution that will take care of both. In order to properly clean your contact lenses, make sure that you clean out your lense case every day or two so that dirt, dust, and germs don’t accumulate. Once you pour out old contact lense solution and rinse out your case, squirt new solution into the case and then place your contact lense into the solution. By allowing your lenses to soak in the solution over night, you can ensure that they are properly cleaned and disinfected.
2. Wash Your Hands
It might sound like a no brainer, but washing your hands before handling your contact lenses is a step that is often overlooked by contact lense wearers. Before you both take out your contact lenses and put them back in, make sure that you wash your hands with warm soapy water.
3. Hold Them Correctly
Although they can withstand a fair amount of wear and tear, contact lenses can tear and break if improperly handled. When removing your contact lenses from the case, make sure that you don’t grab them by the edges because this could cause them to rip. Instead, try to grab your lenses from the center portion of your contact lense and hold them that way.
