What are cataracts?
Cataracts are an issue that comes with age. Any Oklahoman who lives long enough will have to deal with cataracts and the impact they have on daily life. With age comes difficulty with vision, including the blurry, foggy vision which comes from cataracts. Symptoms will occur among the aging population in the Oklahoma City area and must be checked regularly.
But, thanks to technology, there are a variety of solutions for any cataract issue that an aging patient can choose from. The innovative team at Precision Vision offers a variety of solutions and can offer expert advice to determine the next steps for patients with cataracts in the Oklahoma City area.
When to get cataract surgery
Recently, the American Academy of Ophthalmology said “The decision to recommend cataract surgery should be based on consideration of the following factors: visual acuity, visual impairment, and potential for functional benefits.” So for a patient, just the presence of a cataract is not enough. There needs to be a degree of visual impairment altering their ability to perform normal activities in order to have surgery. There also needs to be a reasonable expectation that removing the cataract is going to improve the visual impairment.
Having informed patients is an important part of our mission at Precision Vision, so our team is happy to answer all questions about if cataract surgery is needed and what the best technique is in order to solve the visual issues facing them as they age. We are able to offer a variety of solutions – including laser surgery or dropless cataract care.
If you have been told you need cataract surgery but feel you are not having any significant visual problems, you should consider getting a second opinion. Please call our offices and meet with our team in Midwest City/Edmond/Oklahoma City area.
